Three quarter length portrait of a seated woman and a standing young man (her son?). The woman faces to her right, her hands in her lap hold a lace-edged white handkerchief and a pair of pale gloves. She wears jewelry; there are two bracelets on her right wrist, one gold and one dark band, there is a gold bracelet on her left wrist also. She wears a cameo brooch at her collar, in a gold mount, and a long gold chain hangs from this down the front of her dress. Her earrings are gold, and in three tiers. She sits on an ornate carved wood chair. He stands on her right with his left hand resting on her right shoulder. He wears a mid-colour suit (jacket, waistcoat with top button undone, trousers) and holds a straw hat in his right hand which rests also on his hip. He has a white shirt and a pale cravat tie. He is clean-shaven. Lightly hand coloured and gilded highlights. Note that there is gilded decoration on the frame. See also 13719.
