Half-length portrait of a woman with pale eyes, leaning slightly to her right with her right elbow resting on a circular cloth-covered table, her hand against her cheek. She wears a white lace cap decorated with pink roses, green leaves and smaller pink flowers. Her silk dress is mid-toned, with turned-back decorative cuffs; she also has a double lace collar and lace cuffs. A black lace strip/ribbon around her neck is held with a brooch at the collar. Her dark hair is straight, held with two dark bands, and hangs in loops over her ears. Her other jewellery includes a long gold chain hanging from her neck, and a gold ring on the third finger of her left hand, which holds an open notebook with gilt page edges, with hand-written entries (probably an account-book). The painted backdrop depicts clouds; there is (what looks like) a window with panes of glass to the left of the image. Hand coloured with gold and silver highlights.
